In the expansive universe of action figure collecting, the Powers of Grayskull stand as a cornerstone, symbolizing the epic culmination of the Masters of the Universe saga. As we embark on a journey through the history of the final wave of the vintage line, a tapestry of untold stories and unreleased gems unfolds.
The Giants of Grayskull:
Hero – Tytus, the Titan of Strength:
Tytus, a towering force of good, embodies sheer strength and resilience. Carrying the mantle of the Titan of Strength, Tytus stands as a beacon of hope. His presence on the battlefield against evil forces adds a monumental aspect to the Masters of the Universe narrative.
Tytus was released in both Masters of the Universe Vintage, and Classics.
Villain – Megator, Lord of Destruction’s Colossus:
Megator, the colossal enforcer of Skeletor, looms ominously over the realm. As the Lord of Destruction’s Colossus, Megator brings a sense of dread to the battlefield. With his towering stature and menacing presence, he symbolizes the raw power that the forces of darkness can unleash.
Megator was released in both Masters of the Universe Vintage, and Classics.
The Uncharted Realms:
The final wave of Masters of the Universe vintage figures holds a unique allure, with one standout absence – the elusive Gigantosaur Playset. Despite being in the planning stages, this colossal playset never saw the light of day, leaving collectors to ponder about the adventures that might have taken place around its commanding presence, standing taller than both Tytus and Megator.

The Mythical Hero – He-Ro:
The concept of He-Ro was initially envisioned as a groundbreaking addition to Mattel’s Masters of the Universe toy line in 1987. This new character was intended to take center stage in “The Powers of Grayskull,” a spin-off series that delved into Eternia’s prehistoric era, aptly named “Preternia.” The primary goal was to uncover the mysteries surrounding the origin of He-Man’s formidable power, and this narrative would unfold through the exploits of He-Ro – a youthful yet formidable wizard of that bygone era.
As detailed in Mattel’s license guide, the transformation of He-Ro involved a unique ritual. By placing one hand over his heart, flexing the other into a muscle, and uttering the incantation, “Magic and strength tempered by heart… I stand for peace!” Gray, the original alter ego of He-Ro, would evolve into He-Ro of Grayskull – hailed as the most potent wizard in the entire Universe.

Regrettably, despite the promising plans, the line faced an abrupt cancellation in early 1987, and the envisioned storyline never materialized. The 1987 Mattel Toy Catalog did feature images of the proposed toys from “The Powers of Grayskull” line, showcasing an action figure of He-Ro. While three dinosaur toys from the line, Turbodactyl, Tyrantisaurus Rex, and Bionatops made it to store shelves, and the two “giant” action figures, Tytus and Megator saw exclusive releases in Italy, He-Ro never made it into the hands of eager collectors as a tangible toy.
He-Ro appeared in Masters of the Universe Revelation on Netflix, and was released in the Masters of the Universe Classics, and Masterverse lines.

Moat Monster and Beyond:
The Moat Monster box design, adorning the upcoming Mattel Creations Eternia, pays homage to the Powers of Grayskull legacy. The incorporation of the iconic logo and color scheme serves as a visual testament to the enduring impact of this powerful chapter in Masters of the Universe history.
As we traverse the “final wave”, it’s essential to recognize the intricacies of design and storytelling that shaped this era. The Giants Tytus and Megator, the uncharted realms of Gigantosaur, and the enigmatic He-Ro – each aspect contributes to the rich tapestry of the Powers of Grayskull.
