Scare Glow is a ghostly villain from another dimension who made his first appearance in the Masters of the Universe toy line in 1987. He was summoned by Skeletor to help defeat He-Man and his allies, and was given the ability to induce fear in his enemies with his glow. Scare Glow refused to serve Skeletor at first, but was eventually forced to comply. He is available as an action figure in the MOTU Origins and Masterverse lines.
UK Masters of the Universe Adventure Magazine (1987)
Scare Glow was depicted as a creature conjured by Skeletor from light energy. He was invisible in the light, but not in the dark. Skeletor sent him, along with Ninjor, to attack He-Man and Fisto as they explored Viper Tower.
Masters of the Universe Halloween Special Comic Book (2002)
Scare Glow was the ruler of an alien dimension who had the ability to instill terror in his enemies by forcing them to see visions of their greatest fears. Skeletor summoned him from his home dimension and forced him to serve him. Scare Glow attempted to use his powers on Skeletor, but was defeated. He was forced to remain on Eternia and vowed to discover Skeletor’s fears and make him suffer.
Masters of the Universe Classics (2008)
Scare Glow was known as Karak Nul, a shifty bounty hunter who was cursed and banished into the dimension of Infinita. He was brought back to Eternia by a magical spell of light cast by Skeletor to locate the most evil warriors in the five dimensions. Provided with a Scythe of Doom, Nul agreed to join forces with Skeletor and became known as Scare Glow, thanks to his ability to freeze his enemies with fright. Scare Glow initiated a monstrous scheme while He-Man and Skeletor were on the distant planet of Primus. Convening a cabal of supernatural beings, the ghostly Scare Glow collected seven evil artifacts to raise an army of the undead and plunge Eternia into eternal darkness. However, he was thwarted by the heroic Strobo and the royal archaeologist Melaktha.
Masters of the Universe: Revelation (2021)
Scare Glow made his first animated appearance in this series, in which he is voiced by Tony Todd. He was depicted as a ghostly creature who ruled over Subternia, the land of the dead.
As one of the last figures released in the original Masters of the Universe toy line, Scare Glow is among the most mysterious due to his few appearances in fiction. His action figure is notable for its glow-in-the-dark special feature, with the “bones” glowing when positioned in a dark space. However, the tagline “evil ghost of Skeletor” has led to fan speculation about his true identity. Mattel has come to embrace the position that Scare Glow is the ghost of Karak Nul, who works for Skeletor. Regardless of his origins, Scare Glow remains a popular and iconic villain in the Masters of the Universe franchise.
Mega Construx has a Probuilder Scare Glow action figure available for purchase online.
